Two very close friends of mine, Ryan and Justine recently asked me to shoot their Fire Island Lighthouse engagement. Since they’re getting married on Fire Island, it only made sense to choose the Fire Island Lighthouse our location. We all drove out together and since I’ve known Ryan for 15 + years, it was very casual at first. Justine met us there and had a few outfit choices to change into.
We started walking around the grounds scouting some possible spots to shoot. There were so many spots that caught my eye. The sun was dropping and created some amazing backlight for a few shots with the lighthouse in the back. There were wooden paths all around and we used some of the railings and walkways for some natural looking photos. After a while Ryan and Justine warmed up and I was able to really capture the love between the two.
This shoot happened before I had a solid lens that could shoot wide shots, so with the 70-200mm I had to really stand back a bit to catch the whole scene in the frame, which actually worked out well because it gave them some space to really love each other and be alone and in the moment. Sometimes when you’re right on top of a couple shooting photos they can feel shy or intimidated.
Justine had a few photos from Pinterest she had seen and we made sure to incorporate those into our session. Before leaving we came across a few deer walking in the fields around us. It made for the perfect ending to the session and we hung out for a while before hopping in the car and grabbing some sushi.
Justine and Ryan are getting married next week and I am looking forward to celebrating with the happy couple and some of the old gang. Check the gallery below for a few shots from our session.
