A close friend of mine Ryan Rochford works as a photography teacher in East Meadow High School, where he met his colleagues Mike and Kara. After Mike proposed, they quickly asked Ryan if he would do their beach engagement photography session in Long Beach, New York. Ryan of course agreed, but then reached out to me to see if I would help. Amazing as he is at composing, exposing and capturing images, photographing a couple can prove to be a bit more challenging.
Directing your couple can sometimes be a bit difficult. Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera and knows how to position themselves. That is where the photographer needs to step in and not overdo it, but give some general direction on where to walk, which way to face because of specific lighting situations, when to embrace and so forth.
Luckily for us, Mike and Kara were amazing! These two had an idea of what they wanted and on top of it were extremely outgoing and completely in love. He couldn’t keep his hands off of her and it made mine and Ryan’s job much easier. The weather was a bit cloudy but made for some awesome dramatic lighting. We walked around the boardwalk and beach for about an hour and a half and were ecstatic when Mike said at the end, they wanted to get in the water! Seriously, I wish every Beach engagement photography session was as awesome as this one. Mike and Kara made their way about waist deep into the shore break with all of their clothes on. After splashing around and kissing in the ocean together for some time and snapping away, we came out with some awesome images.
