Tom & Rachel’s engagement happened on a beautiful spring day at Bayard Cutting Arboretum State Park. Tom and I met in high school. He and his fiancé Rachel had asked Mike Nelson and I to shoot their wedding in June. First step though was their engagement session. After we decided on a location and date, we met at the park and had a coffee before heading out. We had absolute perfect weather and began walking the grounds together.
Couples always are hesitant at first. It takes everyone a bit of warming up I think in front of the camera. After all, you’re most likely not models and comfortable expressing your love in front of a photographer. But, thats my job! The most important quality I think your photographer should have is the ability to make you feel at ease. That is when the magic happens. I had Tom and Rachel walking mostly in the beginning, holding hands and bouncing around. It was their first time at the park so we were distracted by some of the beauty of the park’s landscape. There were not many other people around, so we were lucky enough to find some spots all to ourselves tucked away in the pretty trees. We stopped frequently at different little areas within the park and took a couple photos.
After about an hour, the park was closing and we got semi chased out because there was so many pretty spots on our way back to the parking lot, we just couldn’t resist. Tom and Rachel have been so busy planning their wedding day I think they loved the chance to get a little time to themselves on this day. The lovely couple is set to get married in just a few weeks at Bridge Hampton Tennis and Surf Club.
